Dawn Chamorro, Counseling Intern Therapist, Cypress, TX
Meet Dawn
Hi, I’m Dawn, a Counseling Intern Therapist (supervised by Dawn-Petrice Youngs, LPC-S). I provide in-person counseling in Cypress, TX for children of all ages, teens, adults, couples, and families.
My heart for counseling comes from a deep belief that healing is possible, even after seasons that feel heavy, confusing, or overwhelming. Whether you are navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship struggles, parenting stress, substance use concerns, or a major life transition, my goal is to offer a space where you feel safe, heard, respected, and supported.
I believe counseling should feel honest and compassionate. You do not have to arrive with everything figured out. Therapy can be a place to slow down, understand what you are carrying, learn practical tools, and begin taking steps toward hope and healing.
Who I Am
I am a Texas native, born and raised, and proud to still call this place home. I am also a mother, a lifelong learner, and a proud Cy-Fair Bobcat. Community, roots, and connection matter deeply to me, and I value the opportunity to serve individuals and families in the Cypress area.
My path toward counseling has been shaped by personal growth and a deep respect for the healing process. I understand that people often come to therapy carrying pain, stress, shame, grief, fear, or exhaustion that they have been trying to manage alone. I also believe that with support, practical tools, and a safe therapeutic relationship, people can begin to rebuild confidence, strengthen relationships, and move toward a more grounded life.
Faith is an important part of my life and shapes the way I understand compassion, hope, dignity, and perseverance. It helps keep me grounded and reminds me that people are more than the hardest thing they have experienced. In the counseling room, I bring that same steady respect for each person’s story, meeting clients with care, respect, and professional support as they move toward healing at their own pace.
My Areas of Focus
I work with clients across a variety of ages, backgrounds, and life experiences. My areas of focus include:
Anxiety and worry
Depression and emotional heaviness
Trauma and painful life experiences
Panic and overwhelm
Grief and loss
Self-worth and negative self-talk
Life transitions and adjustment
Substance use recovery-related concerns
Children and teens struggling with emotions, behavior, school stress, or family changes
Whether I am working with a child learning to name big feelings, a teen struggling with self-worth, an adult carrying trauma or anxiety, a couple trying to reconnect, or a parent feeling stretched thin, I aim to create a space that feels steady, supportive, and real.
Working With Children, Teens, and Families
Children and teens often express their pain through behavior, withdrawal, mood changes, school struggles, or difficulty communicating what they feel. I work with children of all ages using developmentally appropriate support, practical coping tools, emotional regulation skills, and creative interventions when appropriate.
I also understand that children do not heal in isolation. Parents and caregivers are an important part of the process. I work with families to strengthen communication, increase understanding, support healthy boundaries, and create more connection at home.
For teens, I offer a balance of warmth, honesty, and collaboration. Adolescence can be filled with pressure, identity questions, emotional intensity, and relationship challenges. My goal is to help teens feel heard while also helping them build healthier coping skills, confidence, and emotional awareness.
Supporting Adults, Couples, and Parents
Life can become overwhelming when you are trying to hold everything together on the outside while feeling anxious, discouraged, disconnected, or exhausted on the inside. I support adults who are navigating emotional pain, life transitions, relationship stress, trauma, depression, anxiety, and questions of self-worth.
I also enjoy working with couples who want to improve communication, rebuild trust, manage conflict, and better understand one another. Relationships can become strained through stress, hurt, parenting demands, life changes, or years of feeling unheard. In couples work, I aim to create a balanced space where both partners feel respected as we work toward healthier patterns.
As a mother, I also have a heart for parents and single mothers who carry the weight of responsibility, decision-making, exhaustion, guilt, and the desire to do well for their children. Parenting can be deeply meaningful and deeply challenging. Counseling can offer a space to feel supported, reflect honestly, and develop tools for both personal and family growth.
My Approach to Therapy
I believe therapy is a collaborative process. You are the expert on your own life, and my role is to walk alongside you with compassion, curiosity, and practical support. I do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Each person’s story is different, and counseling should honor that.
My approach may include:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or CBT:
Helping clients notice unhelpful thought patterns, challenge negative self-talk, and develop healthier ways of thinking and responding.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy-informed skills, or DBT skills:
Supporting emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and healthier communication during stressful or intense moments.
Person-Centered Therapy:
Creating a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard, valued, and respected as they explore their experiences.
Trauma-Informed Care:
Approaching therapy with sensitivity to past experiences, emotional safety, trust, and empowerment.
Strengths-Based Counseling:
Helping clients recognize the resilience, abilities, values, and strengths they already carry.
Skills-Based Counseling:
Offering practical tools that clients can use outside of session to manage emotions, improve communication, reduce stress, and move toward their goals.
Mindfulness and Grounding Strategies:
Helping clients slow down, reconnect with the present moment, and develop tools for managing anxiety, panic, and overwhelm.
Family Systems and Relational Support:
Looking at how relationships, communication patterns, family roles, and life experiences shape emotional well-being.
For clients who desire it, faith can also be included thoughtfully as part of the counseling conversation.
What It’s Like to Work with Me
I want therapy to feel like a place where you can show up as yourself. You do not have to have the perfect words, the right answers, or everything figured out before beginning. My goal is to create a space that feels comfortable, supportive, and real, where you can talk through what matters at a pace that feels right for you.
I bring warmth, empathy, understanding, and authenticity into the counseling room. While therapy can involve hard conversations, I also believe connection, compassion, and even moments of lightness can be part of the healing process.
I believe healing often happens through small, intentional steps: learning to name what feels heavy, noticing old patterns, practicing new skills, building confidence, and beginning to see that change is possible. My hope is that clients feel supported, respected, and encouraged as they move toward healing in a way that feels meaningful to them.

What to Expect in Your First Session
Your first session is a chance for us to get to know one another and begin exploring what brings you to counseling. We will discuss your current concerns, goals, and what you hope to gain from therapy.
You do not have to know exactly where to begin. Many people start counseling feeling unsure, overwhelmed, or even nervous. That is okay. We will move at a pace that feels appropriate as we begin to create a plan that supports your needs.
My hope is that you leave the first session feeling heard, supported, and a little less alone.
