Frequently Asked Questions About Therapy in Cypress, TX

Frequently Asked Questions About Therapy in Cypress, TX

Who knew when you started searching “find a therapist near me” you would find so many options, and still be left with SO many questions? We’re here to help!

How long do counseling sessions typically last?

Sessions are generally 60 minutes in length; however, some couple or family sessions may last longer.

What happens during the first counseling session?

Your therapist will go over your intake information with you, learn more about you and your needs, and set a direction for your counseling sessions.

How do I know if I (or my child) really need counseling?

If you or your child are experiencing any of the following then it’s a good indicator it’s time to seek help from a professional.

  1. Persistent or severe emotional distress,

  2. Changes in behavior,

  3. Difficulty coping with life events,

  4. Academic or social difficulties

How often will I need to come to counseling?

If you’re new to counseling, you can expect to start with weekly sessions. We’ll stay at weekly until you begin to feel you have a better handle on your emotions.

How long will I need to come to counseling?

Until you feel more stable and then we’ll shift to a maintenance schedule based on your needs. The average person takes about 9 months of weekly sessions to reach and maintain their optimal level of wellness.

How much do sessions cost?

Session cost depends on the therapist and modality (individual, couples, or family) ranging from $50 to $240. Please ask our intake coordinator during your 15-minute free consultation, or checkout your therapist’s bio.

Does my insurance cover sessions?

This all depends on your individual plan with your insurance. We suggest you contact your insurance and ask about your benefits. Currently, Melissa Hoot, LPC-A accepts Aetna and Cigna. She will begin to accept BCBS and United/Optum this summer. While Dawn-Petrice Youngs, LPC-S is paneled with Cigna & Aetna, she is not accepting new insurance clients. She does have limited private pay availability. Please call and ask. Our interns are private pay only at a reduced fee of $50 (individual) or $75 (couples).

Couples & Families — all couple/marriage and family sessions are private pay only. Insurance does not recognize the diagnosis code and therefore does not reimburse.

Why should I NOT use my insurance aka what’s the benefit of private pay?

  1. No mental health diagnosis. (A mental health diagnosis is required for insurance. These diagnoses can affect life insurance policies, higher scrutiny for certain jobs/career options, etc.)

  2. You decide who has access to your records. (There’s no contact with insurance.)

  3. You choose a therapist based on your needs and the values you desire, not who’s available in your network. (Insurance-based therapists often keep a higher caseload which means less time availability and time to coordinate care.)

  4. You determine the length of treatment and care. (Insurance can dictate how many sessions based on a diagnosis or plan such as EAP.)

  5. You can be confident that your care and personal information is held to the highest standard of privacy laws and statutes.

How do I seek reimbursement from my insurance company?

Our therapists who accept insurance will happily submit your claim electronically for you. If you have insurance we are not credentialed with, we will supply you with a special receipt (Superbill) for you to submit to your insurance for possible out-of-network coverage.

Do you have evening and weekend appointments available?
